An external bone fixation device for the fixation of a broken joint includes first and second fixation rods (2,3) connected to bone pins (44,45) intended to be introduced into the bone, and an articulating portion (1) joining the two rods. One (2) of the two fixation rods is connected to a sliding block that slides within the housing of the articulating portion (1) upon a cylindrical sliding surface having a virtual axis. The articulating portion housing is provided with viewing lines on its cover and its backside for accurately sighting the location of the joint axis which is to be identical with the virtual axis. Means for limiting or impeding movement of the sliding block, such as adjustable stops or friction members, could be provided.
