TITANIA SOL AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To produce titania sol having stability in a wide pH range as well as superior dispersibility by highly dispersing titania particles having a specified shape in a dispersion medium. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous hydrogen peroxide soln. is added to titania sol or titania gel to dissolve the sol or gel. The hydrogen peroxide soln. is added in >=1 weight ratio of H2O2/TiO2 so as to attain perfect dissolution. The resulting soln. is mixed with inorg. oxide sol or inorg. hydroxide sol and the mixture is heated to >=50 deg.C to obtain titania sol in which >=60% of the titania particles dispersed in the dispersion medium are particles having >=2 ratio of the major axis size L to the minor axis size D (L/D).
