PURPOSE:To easily and inexpensively manufacture a medium- or low-carbon ferroalloy, by blowing oxygen gas against the molten high-carbon alloy produced by means of reducing smelting in a vertical smelting furnace while it is flowing down through a hot-metal spout. CONSTITUTION:The molten high-carbon alloy produced by subjecting ore as raw material to reducing smelting by carbon material in the vertical smelting furnace 1 is fed via the hot-metal spout 2 into a pig casting machine 7. At this time, a treatment tank 3 is provided to the midway in the hot-metal spout 2, in which oxygen gas is blow against or into the molten metal to carry out decarburizing and desiliconizing treatments. In this way, decarburizing and desiliconizing treatments can be accomplished in high efficiency, so that medium- or low-carbon ferroalloy can be manufactured easily and inexpensively.
