Adjacent the front region (5) of the cushion (4) there are provided, in combination, straight guide means (11) which can be mounted on the floor (P) of the passenger compartment in an approximately horizontal position and at least one slide member (12) slidable along the guide means (11) and fixed to the front region (5) of the cushion (4) so that the cushion is pivotable about an axis (X) which is generally horizontal in the assembled position of the seat (1), so as to impart to the front region (5) of the cushion (4) a substantially straight line path of movement during the said adjustment.
