PURPOSE:To provide an insecticide capable of keeping its activity over a long period at a low rate of application, by using angelica lactone which is liquid at normal temperature and exhibits excellent insecticidal effect by its vapor or using the compound in combination with other sublimable insecticide. CONSTITUTION:The objective insecticide contains angelica lactone as an active component or contains angelica lactone in combination with at least one kind of compound selected from camphor, naphthalene, p-dichlorobenzene and dimethyl fumarate. Angelica lactone is a mixture of alpha-angelica lactone of formula I and beta-angelica lactone of formula II and obtained by the dry distillation of levulinic acid. In the case of using angelica lactone singly, it is impregnated in a carrier such as paper board, zeolite, perlite, etc., and put into an air- permeable bag made of Japanese paper or into a properly perforated bag made of a plastic or moistureproof cellophane. Angelica lactone may be directly impregnated in a sublimable insecticide to be used in combination with angelica lactone.
