PURPOSE:To shorten the communication time by displaying the first image which has been sent by a facsimile, in both parties of communication, as the ground original being common to both parties of communication, so that a retouch and a correction can be executed on each display picture by both parties by talking with each other by telephone. CONSTITUTION:In case of making previous arrangements with the other party by using an existing original as the ground, and correcting and changing it by talking with each other by telephone, first of all, its existing original is fed in from an original feeding-port 2 and its original is read by an image reading part 12, and the read image information is encoded by an image signal high efficiency encoding circuit, and thereafter, passes through a transmitting and receiving part 13 and sent to the other party through a communication channel (telephone line). It is the same as a usual facsimile. Simultaneously, this read image is displayed on an image display part 17 of its own display and picture drawing pad 6. Accordingly, all the same image (the image of the original which has been fed into the original feeding-in port 2) is displayed on the display and picture drawing pad 6 of the other party and on the own display and picture drawing pad 6.
