PURPOSE:To improve the extent of grinding efficiency, by repeating a cycle for grinding, while making it into a state so as to make the grinding optimum according to the condition of a fixed cycle handling at a time when a workpiece reaches the setting size and output comes out of a gauge, and stopping the grinding automatically. CONSTITUTION:When a gauge signal is outputted during infeed from a point L1 to a point L2, a fixed cycle is stopped at the position, whereby grinding of the fixed cycle is finished, going forward to the next process. Likewise, when the gauge signal is outputted during ongoing grinding to a point L3 from the point L2, it is reset to a Z-axis coordinate position at the time of cycle starting after the grinding goes up to the point L3, thus the fixed cycle is over. Likewise, when the gauge signal is outputted during infeed from the point L3 to a point L4, the infeed is suspended at the position, the grinding is carried out up to the Z-axis coordinate position at the time of cycle starting from this position, making the fixed cycle come to an end. In addition, when the gauge signal is outputted during grinding from the point L4 to a point L5, the grinding is continues to the extent of the point L5 as it is, making the fixed cycle come to an end as well.
