PURPOSE:To improve the extent of finishing surface roughness by grinding so remarkably with a simple method as well as to make it drindable into a mirror form, by forming a grindstone into a fine taper form, and shifting the stone in the axial direction at slow speed at the time of finish grinding. CONSTITUTION:A peripheral surface of a grinding wheel 2 is formed into a taper form where the radius is expanded in diameter as far as several microns by degrees, pressing it to a work W for grinding, then as in illustration B, infeed of less than several microns is given to the work W in a state of being pulled out to the taper large diametral side, and the grinding wheel is moved the taper small diametral side at slow speed, thus grinding takes place. Therefore, since the grinding wheel 2 is formed into the taper form proximate to a cylinder only being expanded in diameter as far as several microns, any influence of the taper at the time of rough grinding is not caused, and grinding takes place with the whole circumferential surface, therefore at the time of finish grinding, allowance of several microns is ground with a few abrasive grains of the taper large diametral part, thus abrasion by these abrasive grains is almost entailed there. And, since the grinding wheel 2 is shifted in the axial direction at slow speed, even as to its moving direction, the work is uniformly ground, thus it is ground into a mirror form.
