PURPOSE:To prevent burr from being generated by cutting both ends of a metal strip with a side trimmer, with an uncut section left, then clamping the cut section with a pair of upper and lower masher rolls to separate it. CONSTITUTION:Lap margins of an upper edge 5a and a lower edge 6a constituting a side trimmer are made minus laps. At the time of cutting, the depth of cut alpha is made about 50-90% of the thickness of a strip S, and an uncut section is left. Then, this uncut portion is pressed by masher rolls, thereby the uncut section is separated, thus burrless trimming is performed. Accordingly, the yield is good, and high-quality side-trimming can be performed.
