PURPOSE:To certainly foresee the destruction of a bearing, by a method wherein acoustic emission (AE) is detected by a sensor and the AE signal obtained is compared with a reference value while the waveform of the AE signal is stored to discriminate the omen of destruction based on the whole of the waveform. CONSTITUTION:Sensors 1-1'' are mounted on a bearing and AE signal are inputted to a multiplexer 3 through preamplifiers 2-2''. Next, the wavelength band of the AE signals are selected according to the kind of the bearing by a band-pass filter 4 and inputted to the operator 7 of a discrimination means to be compared with a reference value, and if larger than the reference value, an alarm is issued. The information showing the waveforms of the AE signals is stored in a memory 8. Parameters such as a generation rate, amplitude and a lasting time etc. causing the level of the waveform of each AE signal to become a definite value or more are calculates and said waveform is compared with the past waveform at a proper foreseeing time and, when both of them are similar, the omen of destruction is judged to issue an alarm. Because not only the AE signal is compared with the reference value but also the omen of destruction is judged from the whole of the waveform the destruction of the bearing can be foreseen with high reliability.
