PURPOSE:To achieve the security of rated power to a starter, the prevention of white smoke, and the saving in rotor power when a Diesel engine is started, by increasing the current quantity to be passed to an intake air heating means in proportion to the increase in the rising rate of engine speed. CONSTITUTION:In an electronic control unit 30, the detected values of a starter switch 9, a water temperature sensor 21, an engine speed sensor 22, or the like are input, and an electric current passing to a glow plug via a glow plug relay switch 10, that passing to an intake air heating heater 6 via a heater relay switch 11, and that passing to a starter motor 2 via a starter relay 6 are on-off controlled at the time of starting. Between the heater relay switch 11 and the intake air heating heater 5, a current control part 11 a is provided, and when the electronic control unit 30 judges that it is in the time of cold start, a current is passed to the intake air heating heater 5 until the starter switch 6 is turned ON, and when the starter switch 6 is turned ON, passage of a current is stopped, and further the passing current rate is increased in proportion to the increase in the rising rate of engine speed.
