A measuring/sampling probe magazine, esp. for steelworks, has supply compartments for receiving horizontal probes and inlet and outlet openings parallel to the probes, a transfer device being provided at the outlets for transferring the probes to a positioning device which places the probes in the vertical position. The supply compartment are arranged one above the other and are inclined so that the probes roll towards the outlet openings. The transfer device is in the form of a lift which receives a single probe from one of the vertical aligned supply compartment outlets.
