PURPOSE:To measure the temp. of a coal mount within a short time, by preliminarily inserting a large number of pipes in the coal mount in a dispersed state to move optical fibers in the pipes and measuring the temp. on the basis of infrared rays passing through said optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:A large number of pipes P1-Pn are preliminarily inserted in a coal mount 10 in a dispersed state and the leading end 21 of an optical fiber 20 is inserted in the pipes P1-Pn to be made to fall. During this falling, temp. is measured on the basis of infrared rays incident from the leading end 21 by an infrared thermometer main body 30. A temp. measuring time is same to the falling time of each optical fiber 20 and, because the falling time of each optical fiber 20 is extermely short, the temp. measuring time can be made extremely short. When the optical fiber 20 passes through the pipe 3 in the vicinity of a high temp. region H on the way of the measurement of temp., abnormal temp. is measured by the thermometer main body 30 and can be easily known by an alarm lamp or buzzer not shown in a drawing. If temp. is measured by this method, the measuring time becomes extremently short as a whole even if there are many pipes P1-Pn.
