Radiation-resistant polypropylene with good transparency contains sorbitol compds. 0.005-8, triaryl phosphites 0.01-4, and the polyamines (I) 0.01-4 phr. The compns. have good melt flow and are useful for food and medicine containers and medical instruments sterilizable by irradn. Thus, 3.5:96.5 ethylene-propylene polymer [intrinsic viscosity 1.62 (Tetralin, 135≦̸) contg. 1,3:2,4-bis (ethylbenzylidene) sorbitol 0.3, tris(2, 4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphite 0.08, and (I) (mol. wt. 1800-2200) 0.08 phr was injectionmolded. Before irradn., impact resistance was 50-60, 30-40, and 25-30 Kg-cm, resp., before and after irradn. with 2.5 Mrad gamma rays and after 2 wk at 80≦̸. |
