<p>Apparatus for the protection of a hydraulic monitor from falling debris. The hydraulic monitor includes a base, a main water supply pipe, a bearing having a vertical pipe attached through it, a rotatable joint coupling the main water supply pipe to the vertical pipe, a monitor barrel, and a second rotatable joint coupling the monitor barrel to the vertical pipe. The second rotatable joint permits movement of the monitor about a horizontal axis. The apparatus has a housing attached to the vertical pipe, which extends on each side of the vertical pipe and is spaced from the pipe to permit free arcuate movement of the monitor about the horizontal axis. The apparatus further includes a shield mounted to the housing and extending from the housing a distance at least as long as the barrel length of the monitor, so that material impacting the monitor will strike the shield rather than the monitor barrel or the rotatable joint.</p> |
