摘要 PURPOSE:To attain the communication always in best condition with any communication opposite terminal equipment by providing a communication characteristic variable setting means, deciding the optimum communication characteristic to a communication opposite terminal equipment at the start of communication or during communication based on the past communication characteristic data and allowing the setting means to set the characteristic. CONSTITUTION:In sending an original to an opposite terminal equipment, a control circuit 9 starts communication with the opposite terminal equipment, reads a past communication characteristic data corresponding to the telephone number of the opposite terminal equipment inserted in a CSI signal arrived at first from the opposite terminal equipment from a RAM and sets the data of the attenuation equalizing quantity TEQ and the attenuation TAT read from the RAM to a transmission attenuation equivalent circuit 30 and a transmittion attenuator 40 as they are, when the sending baud rate TBR is maximum and the sending error rate TER is minimum. On the other hand, a control circuit 9 at the incoming state recognizes the telephone number of the sending terminal equipment inserted in the TSI signal sent from the sending side terminal equipment and sets the communication characteristic data to a reception attenuator circuit 50 and a reception attenuation equalizing circuit 60 in such case similarly as the case with the transmission and controls the presence and absence of insertion of a link equalizing circuit 70 to a reception path.
