PURPOSE:To realize the bidirectional communication by using plural frames to form a multi-frame and performing the phase control only in some of those of the multi-frame via the bits prescribed with each frame for automatic phase control. CONSTITUTION:The frames are turned into a multi-frame with use of N bits and the monitor bits (M bits) serving as the automatic phase control bits sent to a network terminating equipment 1 from terminal equipments 21 and 22 are transmitted for (i) frames by the next frame after '0' is received by N bits. While data are transmitted in the form of S channels for the remaining (n-1) frames. At the same time, the monitor echo bits (m bits) sent to the terminal equipments from the equipment 1 are transmitted for (i) frames from the next frame after '0' is transmitted by N bits. While data are transmitted in the form of S channels for the remaining (n-i) frames. Thus the bidirectional communication is possible between the network terminating equipment and terminal equipments via S channels.
