A mounting-rod arrangement or mounting-column arrangement contains a large number of sections (2A, 2B...2X) which can be interconnected with their ends by a completely internal connection system (13) which interacts with the sections. The sections are provided with flanges (22, 23, 24, 25) which are used to form guide channels (46) for wheels (45) which are provided on foot-mounting plate arrangements or units (11) which can be displaced in the longitudinal direction of the sections. A control system with a toothed device (48) and a locking claw (53) or a system with toothed wheels (87), racks (75) and brakes (80) is used to prevent or make possible the longitudinal movement of the foot-mounting plates by the user so that the user can climb up or down on the rod or column (2) by alternate movement of each plate.
