PURPOSE:To simplify a record edition processing system by obtaining a record so that a data setting area will not be divided. CONSTITUTION:An input processing part 2 reads input data from a magnetic tape storage device A and generates a variable data 2a. In that case, the length of the variable data 2a is multiplied by a half word. [The length of the input data is divided by the half word. If there is a remainder, the length of the input data is added with '1' to change, and a variable data length (a) is obtained. Without the remainder, the input data length is used as it is and set to the variable data length (a).] An output processing part 3 previously secures a buffer area 3a which is multiplied by the half word and has the length of an effective block stored in an external storage device B, sequentially transfers the variable data 2a whose output is requested to the buffer area 3a. If the buffer area 3a becomes full or the type of variable data 2a changes, the processing part 3 writes the remainder of data in the external storage device.
