PURPOSE:To facilitate forming a wear resisting layer and to reduce the slide resistance to a medium by adopting the method where a ceramic layer superior in wear resistance is formed on parts other than a core assembly by a physical thin forming technique. CONSTITUTION:Audio and control core assemblies 1 and 2 are built in a case 3 and are fixed with a resin, and the face, which is slid on a medium, of this head is ground into an arcuate shape. Thereafter, the head is degreased by ultrasonic washing with freon to remove dirt or the like. Several ground magnetic heads 7 are fitted to a groove 10a of a jig 10 of ion plating, and a mask 8 is attached and is detained by screws 11. The mask 8 is provided with aperture parts 8a for ceramics coating. A cooling tube 9 where cooling water is circulated is provided in the jig 10. In this state, a ceramic thin film layer is formed by a physical thin film accumulating technique like vapor-deposition, ion plating, or sputtering. The wear resisting layer is easily formed by this method.
