PURPOSE:To enhance operability, by providing a communication means for transmitting or receiving data stored in a memory to or from a printer provided at the other end of a communication line. CONSTITUTION:With a reception key 13 on a keyboard 1 depressed, a key code and the title of text data designated are transmitted to the other end of a communication line, while text data with the title designated transmitted from the other end are received, are registered into a text memory constituted of a RAM 143 or a RAM card 149, and the designated title is registered into a directory area of the text memory. With a transmission key 12 depressed, a key code of a text data transmission key is transmitted to the other end to indicate that transmission is that of text data, the text data with the title designated are read from the text memory of the RAM 143 or the RAM card 149, and are transmitted to the other end together with the title. A similar function for transmitting and receiving page format data is also provided, whereby operability is enhanced.
