PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a head, and to enable a still picture to he reproduced stably, by storing an A/D-converted reproducing signal to a memory, and stopping the rotation of a disk at the same time of the completion of a storing. CONSTITUTION:By impressing a selection signal from a picture selection signal output means 5, a reproducing head 3 is moved to a prescribed address track through a head mobile means 4 by a motion signal from a control means 6, and a desired still picture signal is reproduced from a magnetic disk 1. And a reproducing still picture signal via a reproducing signal processing circuit 8, and an A/D converter 12 is stored at a storage circuit 13. After completing the storing, a stop signal is supplied to a motor driving control circuit 15 by the means 6, then a disk 1 stops. And the content of the circuit 13 is read out while keeping the stop state of the disk 1, through the means 6, and the still picture is displayed on a display device 9 by a video signal converted by a D/A converter 14. Therefore, the display of a picture is performed without turning the disk, and the service life of the head can be prolonged, and the reproduction, and the display of the still picture can be obtained over a long period.
