PURPOSE:To accurately position a magnetic head on a data track by controlling a driving part to correct the offset between the magnetic head and the data track by an offset correcting device based on the output of a reader. CONSTITUTION:If a magnetic head 7 is set off to a data track 14 by the influence of temperature or the like, this extent of offset coincides with the detected extent of off-track between the head 7 and a servo track 13. Then, the read circuit 31 of a first auxiliary position control part 25 reads out an off-set signal P stored in a storage part 29 and outputs it to an off-set correcting part 22. This correcting part 22 outputs an off-set correction signal 23 corresponding to the extent of off-set to a driving part 11. The driving part 11 controls a carriage 6 based on the signal 23 to move the head 7. Thus, the extent of the off-set between the head 7 and the track 14 is corrected.
