<p>PURPOSE:To enable spelling retrieval or synonym retrieval to be efficiently performed even during a printing operation, by a method wherein when a retrieval mode is set during the printing operation, a key for retrieval is determined, one of the results of retrieval is decided, and printing is performed while correcting a character string previously printed. CONSTITUTION:When a list mode is started by pressing a specified key after printing 'ab', a printing position pointer 210 is moved leftward from the position at which a carriage has been located, character codes stored in a buffer 21 are checked, and character strings already inputted are displayed on an LCD 3. Editing is performed by using the LCD 3, and when the stem of a word to be retrieved is determined, word retrieval is started. When a return key is pressed after designating 'ab', words beginning with 'ab' are retrieved from a dictionary stored in an ROM 5, and are sequentially displayed on the LCD 3. The character code pointed by the pointer 210 is compared with the code in a character string just determined, from left to right, and when the two codes compared are the same, the carriage is simply fed by one character position. When the two codes compared are different, a correcting. action is performed, and a decided character string stored in a retrieval buffer 40 is printed.</p> |
