PURPOSE:To reduce an electromagnetic force geuerated between superconducting coils and thereby to lessen the amount of consumption of a cryogenic medium by a construction wherein a vacuum adiabatic container of a superconducting magnet employed in a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is formed of a magnetic substance except for a part on the diagnostic space side. CONSTITUTION:A vacuum adiabatic container 5 of a superconducting magnet employed in a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is formed of a magnetic substance except for a part thereof on the diagnostic space side. Concretely, an outer tube 2 and end plates 3 are formed respectively of a magnetic material such as iron, for instance. Then an electromagnetic attracting force 13 acts between a superconducting coil 7 and the outer tube 2 and the end plate 3, and an electromagnetic attracting force 14 generated between superconducting coils 6 is reduced in comparison with the one in a conventional apparatus. Therefore the cross-sectional area of a support 10 supporting the coils is reduced and consequently the amount of consumption of a cryogenic medium is lessened.
