A description is given of an electrically conductive soot and of an electrically conductive composition containing the soot. A process for producing such soot is also described. Soot with improved electrical conductivity is obtained by heat treating a mixture of soot and a polymeric and/or bituminous substance which can be converted essentially into carbon at temperatures of at least 1000 DEG C, the soot having a pH of not less than 9, a specific surface of between 40 and 70 m<2>/g and an iodine adsorption of between 50 and 80 mg/g.
