PURPOSE:To efficiently separate oil content by adding an oil separating composition having a specified compd. to waste contg. oil. CONSTITUTION:When adding an oil separating composition having a compd. shown in a formula (R in the formula is 40-70C alkyl group or alkenyl group) as an essential component to waste water contg. oil, the oil separating composition is adsorbed to an emulsifying agent which orientates a hydrophilic group to the inside thereof and a hydrophobic group to the outside and is absorbed on oil particles incorporated in waste water contg. oil. In the emulsified and dispersed oil particles, the surfaces of oil particles are made hydrophobic. While oil particles whose surfaces are made hydrophobic are mutually aggregated and granulated, these are floated in liquid and waste water contg. oil is separated into an oil phase of the upper layer and an aq. phase of the lower layer. Excess oil separating composition is floated in the aq. phase and dissolved in the oil phase of the upper layer.
