PURPOSE:To synthesize an ester from an acid and an alcohol with an enzymatic reaction in high yield, by using an immobilized enzyme derived from a mixture of a hydrolase and a specific photo-setting resin. CONSTITUTION:A hydrolase such as lipase is mixed with a photo-setting resin containing >=2 ethylenic unsaturated bonds in one molecule and having a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance of <=11 and the mixture is irradiated with actinic light to obtain an immobilized enzyme. The photo-setting resin is e.g. a polyester of polyalkylene glycol and (meth)acrylic acid, a urethanized adduct of polyalkylene glycol and 2-hydroxyethyl (meth)acrylate, etc. An esterification reaction can be carried out by adding the immobilized enzyme to a mixture of a higher fatty acid and an alcohol and incubating the system.
