PURPOSE:To enable the management and control of slag level, to improve the yield, to operate with high efficiency and to reduce the cost, etc., by using a blowing lance, in which plural thermocouples are inlaid in the outer pipe of the cooling water passage thereof. CONSTITUTION:The ordinary thermocouples N-1-N-3 are inlaid in the cooling water passage 7b side of the outer pipe 6 for the blowing lance 1 each having suitable interval toward height direction from the upper part of the head 2 successively to the furnace opening hole direction and placing the ends thereof in about 1/3-2/3 (t) thickness to the outer pipe 6 thickness (t). As measured temp. of the thermocouple N-2 which is not immersed in the slag is lower than measured temp. of the thermocouple N-1, rise of the slag level is realized and by the time difference at this time, the rising speed of the above level is also found. Therefore, the above lance 1 is used and the slag level, etc., is detected and controlled by elapsed change of the temp. measured by the thermocouples N-1-N-3, and so proper refining, such as dephosphorization, desulphurization, etc., is performed.
