Spinel-forming composition based on magnesia spinel, characterised in that it lies within the area A'-A''-B''-B' in the ternary system MgO-Al2O3, with A' = 39.80 % by weight of MgO, 59.70 % by weight of Al2O3 and 0.5 % by weight of ZrO2;A'' = 24.87 % by weight of MgO, 74.63 % by weight of Al2O3 and 0.5 % by weight of Zr02;B'' = 22.50 % by weight of MgO, 67.50 % by weight of Al2O3 and 10.0 % by weight of ZrO2, and also the use thereof (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
