A device for the selective testing of DC electrical connections and the rotating field direction has the following features: switching elements for an electrical continuity test and an electrical rotating field direction test are arranged in a common apparatus housing with signal transmitters for indicating the continuity or the rotating field direction; three test cables are connected to the switching elements, which test cables are passed out of the apparatus housing and have test contact elements at their free ends; a switch which can be set into two switch positions is arranged on the housing; in one of the switch positions, two of the three test cables are connected to the switching elements for the continuity test, and in the other switch position, the three test cables are connected to the switching elements for the rotating field direction test.
