The present invention relates to a hammer for comminuting concrete, rock and the like. The hammer differs from the prior art in that it comprises a body of high-carbon or high-tensile structural steel, which bears the bore and on which is arranged, at the front, a trough and hard baffle plate, which is adjoined at the back, counter to the striking direction, by a zone, preferably of equal material thickness, of abrasion-resistant metal. <IMAGE>
