In order to achieve a particularly homogeneous distribution of the additive loaded with ammonia over the reaction cross-section, associated with an improved reduction of the nitrogen oxides and an effective utilisation of the additives and reducing agents in the removal of nitrogen oxides from the flue gases from furnace or combustion installations, activated coke in the form of dust, precipitated in a precipitator device (13), is loaded with an NH3/air mixture serving as conveying air and then introduced into the throat (6) of a venturi tube (4) through which the flue gas stream flows. In the tubular reaction section (9, 10, 11, 12) adjoining the venturi tube and wound several times, the additive loaded with ammonia is whirled up in the flue gas stream. After passing through the reaction section (9, 10, 11, 12), the waste gas/solids mixture is subjected to a readsorption in a dry filter associated with the precipitator device (13). The air rate required for the ammonia/air loading is taken from the pure gas downstream of the dry filter. <IMAGE>
