The improvement in the internal combustion engine of the two-cycle type flows primary from the location of the intake ports (12) and the exhaust valve (13). By locating the intake ports (12) at a point near the middle of the piston stroke and having the exhaust valve (13) in the cylinder head (22), the scavenging process of the engine is improved and the intake compression power loss is reduced and it further allows the engine to have substantial differences in the compression and expansion ratios. The construction of the improved engine allows a reduction in the stresses on the timing and operating mechanism for the valve system. |
