<p>Detecting head assembly capable of detecting and/or scanning radioactive emissions from a sample. The assembly includes a multiplicity of drift chambers (21) below which one or a number of individual samples may be supported. A beta particle emitted from the sample ionises gas within chambers (21) and negative ions are directed, by the application of an electric field, towards anode wires (27) which cross with cathodes (28) above drift chambers (21). The proximity of the tops of drift chambers (21) with anode wires (27) serves to prevent radiation received by any one drift chamber (21) from being detected by any part of the electrode structure associated with another drift chamber (21). The assembly is useful in the field of medical diagnostics and biomedical research for providing information relating to radioactive samples.</p> |
