A vertically adjustable podium, in particular scissor-action podium for stages or the like has a frame as constituent part of a platform. Two opposite frame portions with plug-in holes are provided with locking pins which are held stressed in the locking position by means of springs. The locking pins are received in guide tubes, arranged between the frame parts and mounted on the podium scaffolding, and they can be released from their locking position counter to the spring action by means of handles. Control rods are longitudinally displaceably guided on or in the frame portions provided with plug-in holes. Connected to the control rods, such that they move in unison in each case, are, on the one hand, a handle and, on the other hand, a number, corresponding to the number of the plug-in holes, of control surfaces which act on the locking pins with a pressure fit. This being the case such that, on displacement of the control rod, the locking pin can be disengaged from its locking position by means of the control surface assigned to its plug-in hole.
