In a machining center, the pallet changing device includes a brake motor (1) and a rotary shaft (2) both set at respective ends of the pallet travel, the respective sprockets (1') and (2') being linked by a chain (4) having a hook arm (6) at a predetermined position. With rotational movement of the chain (4), the hook arm (6) provided with a roller (5) at its outer end comes to hook the pallet (3) by the roller (5) fitting into a groove (12) of a block (11) fixed on the front end of the pallet and carry the pallet with differential speeds by sections a, b and c, speed b>a,c. An advantage of the device is its simple structure eliminating the need of oil cylinder system.
