PURPOSE:To increase input/output operating speed by outputting control information to a magnetic disk to supply it to a main memory as necessary and attaining the use of the virtual input/output even with a permanent file. CONSTITUTION:It is decided whether a virtual input/output file is equal to a permanent file or a temporary file. If a permanent file is decided, a virtual input/output control program 103 gives a request to a memory control program 104 to output the control information 2 to a paging area 105. Thus the program 104 outputs the information 2 and gives the position information on the area 105 to the program 103. Then the program 103 stores the control information 1 containing the name of the permanent file and the position information on the area 105 of the information 2 related to the name of the permanent file. Furthermore the program 103 outputs the information 1 to the head of the area 105.
