CONSTITUTION:This height control device for the processing head holds the processing head 6 to the position of the prescribed height from the work piece A and the moving speed of the processing head 6 of said device is set as follows: The moving speed at which said processing head 6 moves toward the position of the prescribed height mentioned above and arrives at the position near the same is set higher than the speed at which the processing head 6 arriving at said position moves to the position of the prescribed height. The processing head is thereby moved quickly to the position of the prescribed height without hindering the smooth and exact movement and stoppage of said head to and at the position of the prescribed height.
