PURPOSE:To increase sealing capability by arranging a sealing member comprising a kneaded mixture of graphite and fluorine oil, and a fluorine resin tape between the end of a rib-installed electrode placed on one side of a matrix and a gas separating plate. CONSTITUTION:A pair of rib-installed electodes 2 in which gas passages are formed are palced on both sides of a matrix 1 into which electrolyte is impregnated to form a unit cell. A plurality of unit cells are stacked through a gas separating plate 3 to form a fuel cell. A sealing member comprising a kneaded mixture 5 of 30-60 wt% graphite powder and 70-40 wt% fluorine oil, and a fluorine resin tape 6 is placed between the end of the rib-installed electrode 2 and the gas separating plate 3 before the fuel cell is assembled. Thereby, elasticity and adhesion between the end of the electrode and the gas separating plate are increased. Therefore, gas leakage from the end space is surely prevented and the life of the fuel cell is lengthened. |
