Device for cutting floor coverings, especially carpets, to size, is composed of a handle piece (12) on which a knife (32) is adjustably arranged in a cutting plane (34) in such a way that the distance between the cutting edge of the knife (32) and the handle piece (12) can be adjusted. The handle piece (12) is used to fasten a guide strip (14) with two guiding surfaces (52, 54) which are arranged at right angles to one another and are each inclined through 45 DEG with respect to the cutting plane (34). The guide strip (14) is mounted on the handle piece (12) so as to be adjustable transversely to the cutting plane (34) and parallel to its original position. <IMAGE>
