PURPOSE:To reduce the dead space on a display screen providing a group of arrays of picture element electrodes of a transmitted light quantity control element in the lengthwise direction of a guide-in plate and a light guide-out plate, and composing the light guide-out plate of plural layers corresponding to the respective electrode arrays. CONSTITUTION:The laminate plate 4 of transparent plates 4-1 and 4-2 and a transparent plate 2 are put one over the other with a light crystal element 5 interposed at one-terminal sides, the element 5 incorporates transparent picture element electrode arrays S11-S1n and S21-S2n in the X-axial direction of the transparent plates 1 and 4, and wires 61-6n and a common wire 6n+1 corresponding to electrode arrays S11-S1n, and wires 71-7n and a common wire 7n+1 corresponding to the electrode arrays S21-S2n are provided on a printed wiring board adhered to the bottom surface of the plate 1. A slanting surface 1a of the plate 1, deflection parts 3-1 and 3-2, and end slanting surfaces 4a+1 and 4a+2 of the plates 4-1 and 4-2 are covered with an Al film. The element is sealed 5a and 5b at the periphery of picture element electrodes and not on the optical path of background light of the deflecting plates. Incident background light beams L1 and L2 are bent and projected from the transparent laminate body 4. This constitution enables the dead space such as the sealing part of a linear liquid crystal display element to be off the optical path of the background light, so the density of picture elements is increased and the size of the screen is adjustable by the number of laminate plates. |
