<p>PURPOSE:To permit the control of a fine rugged shape having directivity and to stably obtain a uniform orientation with a crosslinked prepolymer by selectively dissolving away the region in a film, then subjecting the film to a rubbing treatment in one direction. CONSTITUTION:A polymer layer having two regions; a region 2 where the prepolymer without making a clathrate compd. 24 with host molecules 23 is polymerized and a region 2' where the prepolymer suppressed with the crosslinking reaction by making the compd. 24 with the molecules 23 remains in the state of said structure is formed, when the crosslinking type prepolymer of guest molecules 21 adequately mixed with the host molecules 23 is coated on a substrate 1 and is crosslinked and polymerized by heating. The fine rugged ness is formed on the polymer layer surface, when only the prepolymer 2' mak ing the compd. 24 with the molecules 23 existing in the surface layer of the polymer layer is removed by an org. solvent. The fine ruggedness forms a groove shape having directivity and the liquid crystal molecules 3 are arrayed in one direction at a tilt angle theta along the grooves, when the polymer layer surface is subjected to the rubbing treatment with cloth or the like in one direc tion.</p> |
