PRODUCTION OF COMPOSITE STRUCTURAL PIPE

PURPOSE:To form a composite structural pipe having an aperture at the pipe wall by boring a hole to part of the wall of an external pipe, fitting a plug body therein, packing a thermit agent into such pipe and effecting a thermit reaction, then forming a ceramic layer. CONSTITUTION:The hole 5 is worked and bored to the specific point on the wall of the external pipe 1 and the plug body 3 (made of graphite, etc.) is inserted therein in such a manner that the said body faces the axial center of the pipe and that the outside surface 3a thereof is flush with the outside peripheral face 1a of the external pipe 1. The thermit agent 2 in a powder state is then lined to the inside peripheral face of the pipe 1 and an arbor 4 is inserted therein. The pipe is inserted in this state into a metallic flask 6 and bands 7 are fixed to both ends of the flask 6. The flask 6 is rotated at a prescribed rotating speed in this state and the thermit agent 2 layer is ignited to effect the thermit reaction. The entire part is cooled upon ending of the reaction and the composite pipe A is removed from the flask 6. The plug body 3 is broken away so as not to damage the ceramic layer 9 around the plug body 3. The composite structural pipe A having the aperture 10 at the pipe wall is thus obtd.
