Devices for transporting ink ribbons in typewriters or similar office machines are intended always to guarantee a reliable transportation of the ink ribbon and should additionally be cost-effective and favourable in assembly. The invention guarantees an expedient design of the ink-ribbon transporting devices due to the fact that both ends (32, 33) of a finite toothed belt (17) are attached in each case by a clamping piece (34, 35) releasably to side walls (36, 37) in the machine frame, and that a spring (38) is arranged spread out at least between one clamping piece (34, 35) and the assigned side wall (36, 37). The toothing of this toothed belt (17) is always engaged with a gear wheel (16) by means of which a transporting roller (21) which drives the ink ribbon can be driven in the simplest manner during the movement of the carriage (1). <IMAGE>
