PURPOSE:To easily carry out the shift reaction of carbon monoxide by using a solid electrolyte conducting oxygen ions in a reactor. CONSTITUTION:A U-shaped diaphragm 1 of a solid electrolyte conducting oxygen ions is placed at the center of a reactor to divide the reactor into an anode chamber 5 and a cathode chamber 6, and electrodes 3, 3 and current collecting plates 7 having lead wires 4 are attached to both sides of the diaphragm 1. Steam is introduced into the reactor from an introduction hole 9, carbon monoxide from an introduction hole 10 and electric power is generated by connecting the electrodes. The gases react with each other on the anode and cathode sides to produce carbon dioxide and high purity gaseous hydrogen. The carbon dioxide is discharged from a discharge hole 20 and the high purity gaseous hydrogen from a discharge hole 11 through the diaphragm 1. |
