Splash-ring labyrinth seal

Contactless seal for the passage of a shaft through a wall of a housing at a location subject to splashing liquid, the seal comprising a stator and a rotor. The stator consists of at least two thin-walled sleeves of different diameters. The sleeves have an identical cross-sectional shape and are each connected firmly to one another by a ring. The rotor consists of at least two thin-walled angle rings of identical cross-sectional shape, the cylindrical regions of which have approximately the same difference in diameter as the sleeves and the radial regions of which overlap and are connected integrally to one another. When the seal is installed, the smallest angle ring is secured on the shaft and the cylindrical region of each outer angle ring reaches axially into the annular space formed by two sleeves of the rotor and one ring. At its end facing the rotor, each sleeve has a flange and, at its other end an inward-pointing rim. Each angle ring of the rotor has a flange at the end facing the stator. In one particular embodiment of the seal, the flange of one sleeve touches a flexible, preferably porous tapered ring inserted between the adjoining angle rings of the rotor. <IMAGE>
