The body is so shaped that when external pressure is applied to it the powder is compressed. On or in the body are electrically conductive contact plates at a distance from one another, and in contact with the carbon powder. The electrical resistance between the plates varied according to the degree of pressure applied. The body is made of approx. 50 per cent silicon pulp, and 50 per cent carbon powder, is circular and thin in relation to its diameter, i.e. it is formed like a coin. The one contact plate is connected to each of two opposite sides of the body, virtually covering them. The body is a closed box wholly filled with carbon powder, and has at least one wall area for transmission of externally applied pressure to the carbon powder.
