A shock absorber assembly is disclosed for use with wheels of a wheelchair. The assembly includes a slider (3) fixed to one end of a wheel axle (11) and vertically movably guided by guide rails (2) supported by upper and lower support members (5,5') secured to a side frame (1) of the wheelchair. An upper elastic member (13) is mounted between the upper support member (5) and the slider (3) so as to be compressed as the slider is moved up. A lower elastic member (14) is mounted between the lower support member (5') and the slider (3) so as to be compressed as the slider is moved down. The shock to the wheelchair is not transmitted directly to a person sitting thereon, but absorbed by the two elastic members (13, 14). Castor-like auxiliary wheels of a wheelchair may be mounted by a somewhat similar arrangement (Fig. 8). <IMAGE> |
