NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R<1> represents H, OH, amino-, COOH, nitro, alkanoyl, lower alkoxyl or hydroxy lower alkyl; R<2> represents H, aralkyl or aroyl; R<3> represents -NR<a>R<b> (R<a> and R<b> represent H, lower alkyl or aralkyl or may link with each other to form 5-7-membered ring together with an adjacent N atom); R<4> represents H or lower alkyl; p is 1-4; q is 1-3] or salt thereof. EXAMPLE:5,6-Dimethoxy-2-[(5-methyl-4-piperidino-2-pyridyl)methylthio]i ndole. USE:An antiulcer agent. PREPARATION:A compound (salt) expressed by formula I is reacted with a compound (salt) expressed by formula III (X<1> represents eliminating group) to form a compound expressed by formula IV, and, if necessary, further reacted with a compound expressed by the formula X<2>-R<5> (R<5> represents aralkyl or aroyl; X<2> represents eliminating group).
